The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

This is a varied and interesting role accountable for strategic and operational support for all people matters across the allocated directorates/workforce ensuring effective management of risk and resolution in workplace issues.  You will provide high-quality advice and service to management on daily employee relations and performance management issues. A key part of this role is to support key programmes of work within the Corporate Plan (2025-2028), specifically those around the People Theme (Transform our culture). Additionally support on workforce planning for the allocated Directorate, ensuring the accurate forecasting of workforce and recruitment requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Up-to-date practical knowledge of key aspects of employment law, regulations and their application.
  • Experience of supporting managers on complex employment relations issues, including redundancy, termination and disciplinary and grievance.
  • In depth knowledge of contractual and non-contractual terms and status with evidence of managing varying types of employees, workers and contractors.
  • Experience of influencing strategic business decisions and working with managers to develop, plan and deliver interventions to raise performance of teams and individuals.
  • Evidence of production of policies, procedures and guidance to a high standard.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and provide constructive challenge to managers, building partnerships and gaining agreement and commitment to action.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including a calm, assertive, persuasive and professional approach.
  • Evidence of producing and analysing management information to support decision making.
